Northern Bohemia is at a breaking point. The historical dependence on the mining industry and energy is giving way to the necessity of building an economy resilient to the challenges of the 21st century. The vision of the Centre for Technology and Knowledge Transfer (CTTZ) at UJEP stems from the conviction that the university must not be merely a passive observer of this change, but its primary architect. Our vision is to create a dynamic and open environment where top-tier research is naturally and effectively transformed into solutions that have a real social and economic impact.

According to scientific studies (e.g., Arrow, 1962), knowledge is a “public good” whose value is maximized only when it is shared and applied. CTTZ UJEP functions as this strategic bridge.

  1. Identification: Active search for technologies with a high degree of innovation potential (Technology Scouting).
  2. Validation: Reducing risk for investors through Proof-of-Concept testing.
  3. Realization: Selecting the most appropriate path to market—whether through license sales, contract research, or the establishment of spin-off companies.

A Regional Engine

We utilize the Triple Helix model (university–industry–government collaboration), which is internationally recognized as the most effective engine for regional development. The vision of CTTZ is firmly anchored in the needs of the Ústí Region. We understand the specificities of our region—from the need for ecological reclamation to the necessity of industrial digitalization.

Statistical models show that the presence of a strong transfer office increases the “absorptive capacity” of a region—the ability of local firms to adopt and utilize new technologies. Our goal is for UJEP to be perceived as the primary innovation partner for every company in the region, from small startups to multinational corporations.
